The
Grand Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police is a
non-profit organization formed under the laws of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on 17th day
of November 1915.
On
January 7, 1963 a charter was granted by the Grand
Lodge to Chicago Lodge No. 7, Fraternal Order of
Police, which constituted Lodge 7 as a subordinate
Lodge with full power under their jurisdiction from
the City of Chicago. The Lodge at that time was
known as "The United Chicago Police
Association", Lodge No. 7 of the Fraternal
Order of Police. At that time, Joseph J. LeFevour
was President and Richard Lis was Recording
Secretary. The stated preamble to the original
constitution stated in part:
"We
pledge ourselves to promote the health and welfare
of all Chicago Law Enforcement Officers and their
immediate families; to raise and maintain the
professional standards of the Chicago Law
Enforcement Officer; and to represent Chicago Police
Officers in affairs relative to the administration
of the department."
This
pledge set forth a goal, which was accomplished in
November of 1980 when Chicago Police Officers
citywide elected Fraternal Order of Police Chicago
Lodge No. 7 as their collective bargaining agent. At
this important milestone John Dineen was President
and James Lis was Recording Secretary.
Hard
work and determination led to negotiating the first
contract in history for Chicago Police Officers when
on August 19, 1981 the collective bargaining
agreement was signed and ratified.
When our
first contract was ratified Chicago Lodge No. 7
became the Union for 8,202 officers. Presently we
are negotiating for our 7th full contract
agreement proudly representing Chicago Police
Officers below the rank of Sergeant. Currently Mark
Donahue is President and Sidney Davis is Recording
Secretary.
