THANK YOU, FROM A CITIZEN
07/15/08
On Sunday, 13 July
2008 at 2023 hours, the Lodge
received the following telephone
message and the Citizen leaving it,
David S., wanted to reach out to
Chicago Police Officers.
"...I just wanted
to call and leave a quick message, I
figure this might be the best way to
reach most people. Got to see some
bad things, a couple of random acts
of violence in my neighborhood, and
I saw how well the police handled it
and I just wanted to say thank you
very much, to you guys. You
don’t understand how much you guys
are appreciated and how little the
fact that the majority of the people
in this great city appreciate what
you do is not published out there.
I just would like that message to
get past the Lodge to as many police
officers as possible and would like
to thank you guys for all the hard
work that you do out there, trying
to keep things decent for those of
us trying to live a decent life
safe."

TERRY KNOX
UPDATE
07/02/08
President Donahue, on behalf of all
of the members of Lodge 7, has sent
the following
letter to Cook County Board
President Todd Stroger asking
that he work to see that Officer
Terry Knox receives the judgment the
courts said he was entitled to in
1976.
As you may be aware, earlier this
year, as a part of the plea deal
which Retired Officer Knox approved,
a large cash settlement was donated
to the Chicago Police Memorial
Foundation. Terry extends his
thanks to everyone who supported him
while he waited for resolution, and
it is his sincere hope that the
Memorial Fund never has a need to
use that settlement.
To help close
out this case, it might be helpful
if officers wrote to the Cook County
leaders and ask that Terry receive
the judgment he was awarded.

CHOOSING A
PRESIDENT
06/26/08
The following paragraphs are taken
from the FOP Grand Lodge website.
After consulting with the members of
the Presidential Screening
Committee, I have decided to post
the responses, in full, from the
campaigns of Senators
John S. McCain III (R-AZ) and
Barack H. Obama II (D-IL), the
presumptive nominees for the Office
of President of the United States by
their respective political parties.
These responses are being provided
to you for your review and
information, but please understand
there are several steps yet in the
FOP's endorsement process. Follow-up
questions, based on these responses,
have been created and will be put to
the candidates when they meet
directly with the Presidential
Screening Committee.
Each State Lodge has (or should
have) a process by which the members
of the local lodges within the State
Lodge would convey their preference
for a candidate to their National
Trustee. It is important that each
member know about his or her State's
process for instructing their
National Trustee so that all FOP
members can meaningfully participate
in this process.
The Board of National Trustees will
meet and vote in September and the
candidate who receives a two-thirds
majority will receive the
endorsement of the Grand Lodge.
I ask that you bear in mind that
there is not and never will be a
candidate with whom we will agree
100% of the time. I ask that you
carefully and deliberately review
the candidates, their responses, and
their history on the issues that
matter to us and then participate in
the process devised by your State
Lodge to convey your views to your
National Trustee.
Chuck Canterbury
National President

05/07/08
