The Superintendent will host a Superintendent's Speaker Series, with the assistance of the Professional Counseling Division/Employee Assistance Program (EAP). These series of workshops are in effort to promote officer wellness and ensure the mental and emotional well-being of our officers. The second seminar Winning the Battle focuses on stress management and suicide prevention. It will be presented by Clarke Paris, PS, CJA, M.A.C., and his wife Tracie Paris, RN, BSN. Clarke Paris is a retired Sergeant (LVMPD), the creator/producer of award-winning documentary film Pain Behind the Badge, and author of My Life For Your Life. Clarke’s presentation will cover PTSD, manifestation/coping skills, progression of stress, opioid addiction and suicide prevention. Traci Paris will cover a segment titled Spousal and Family Involvement.
Winning the Battle workshop will be repeated on two separate dates, Monday, 22 April 2019 at 1400-2200 hours (3rd watch) and on Tuesday, 23 April 2019 at 0800-1600 hours (2nd watch), at Malcolm X College (auditorium) located at 1900 W. Jackson Blvd. If interested in attending on-duty, contact your Commanding Officer for approval to be carried code 47A. Those selected members will be directed to register online on The Wire under the “What’s New” tab, no later than Monday, 15 April 2019 at 1200 hours. Officers attending are encouraged to share their experience with their co-workers. Other Department members (sworn and civilian, off-duty) are welcome to attend but must register by Monday, 15 April 2019 at 1200 hours, as space is limited. Due to the Spousal and Family Involvement segment of the seminar, members are strongly encouraged to invite their spouse or significant other. Their name must be added at the time of online registration. All on-duty personnel are required to wear business casual attire. Attending this seminar will constitute a tour of duty for on-duty personnel who have prior approval from their Commanding Officer to attend, and will be carried code 47A on the Attendance and Assignment sheet. No overtime will be paid for those Department members who attend on their RDO. Free parking is available at Malcolm X College with ticket validation at the security desk on the 1st floor. The entrance to their parking garage is located on Wood Street. Refreshments will be available during the seminar but food or drinks will not be allowed in the auditorium. A one hour lunch will be on your own. If there are any questions, contact Sergeant Shawn Kennedy at (312) 745-5692 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
