I am a Chicago Police Officer and I recently moved into a single family home in the Dunning neighborhood on the northwest side of Chicago. I hadn’t even been there a year before my basement flooded on the day the Chicago Black Hawks won the cup. After that I decided to get involved with some community groups to try to get the attention of the city with the purpose ofplacing a higher priority on flood prevention measures that both the city and the homeowners can do to help themselves.
What we’ve been able to do so far is get an online survey started and we’ve got a meeting planned for October 14, 2015 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Austin-Irving library at 6100 w Irving Park. We have representatives from Alderman Sposato’s office, the Center for Neighborhood Technology (CNT) and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) committed to attend.
I know there are plenty of us that live on the northwest side that have been affected by flooding. Below are the links to the community group called By Neighbors For Neighbors and also the link to the survey. Obviously there is no charge for anyone to take the survey, which takes about 5 minutes to complete. I believe its only 25 questions.
