Police Officer Larry J. Vincent Remembered

End of Watch: Friday, January 14, 1983

Police Officer Larry J. Vincent was killed and a fellow officer wounded in a gun  battle with two burglary suspects. Officer Vincent and his partner  responded to a burglary in progress call at an apartment located at 5131 S.  Calumet just after 7:00 p.m. Officer Vincent and the second officer  entered from the front and confronted two suspects in a first floor hall area.   The gunmen leaped from windows and fired at the pursuing officers, wounding them.   Back-up officers arrived immediately to assist the wounded officers, and the  assailants were captured outside the building.

Officer Vincent died in  the emergency room of Billings Hospital from a gunshot wound to the right side  of his face.

Officer Larry Vincent was survived by his expectant wife and  two sons. Additional survivors include his father and uncle, also Chicago police  officers.

Officer Vincent was a 3 year veteran of the force, assigned  to the Wentworth District.

Officer Vincent will be remembered in two separate masses. The first is a Police Mass on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at 11:00 am. This mass will be held at Mercy Home, 1140 W. Jackson Blvd. The second mass is on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 5:30 pm. This mass will be held at St. Thomas More Church, 2825 W. 81st St.
